Cingalau Fortress

"Cingalau Fortress" is a fairytale from Maramures, published at ZESTREA Publishing House, led by the author Nicoara Mihali. The story of Cingalau is a traditional versified creation, written by the professor Ion Biltiu-Dancus (1892-1952), lost after his passing away and found two decades ago by the well-known Maramures folklorist Pamfil Biltiu. The legend of the giants once living in Maramures Country is the fascinating story of Cingalau, "the old man tall as the Pietros Mountain, but with a child-like soul, who cries for his kind’s disappearance and for the world he dwelled in endless centuries of his long life. Once a skittish adolescent bringing down the stars in the sky with his mace, only to string them around his lover’s neck, Cingalau was meant to become the last of the giants blessed by God with an offspring – the beautiful Roza Rozalina" – source: Emaramures.
